Malaysia’s annual inflation rate eased to 1.4% in February 2026, down from an eleven‑month high of 1.6% in January and below market expectations of 1.6%. This was the lowest reading since November of the previous year, reflecting slower price increases across several categories, including food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.3% vs 1.5% in January), health (1.2% vs 1.4%), and information and communication (0.5% vs 0.7%).

Inflation also moderated in education (2.8% vs 3.2%), restaurants and accommodation services (2.5% vs 3.0%), and insurance and financial services (4.7% vs 5.5%). In contrast, price growth accelerated for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (2.6% vs 2.5%) and for personal care, social protection, and miscellaneous goods and services (6.9% vs 6.6%), while it remained unchanged for furnishings, household equipment, and routine household maintenance (0.2%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.2% in February, after a 0.1% increase in January.
